Description: For my first show at CalArts, I worked closely with the TD/ATD to achieve this “set within a set”. I was responsible for working with the school of theater to purchase and track materials, and I also led work-study crews during the construction process. The show took place on a theater set, and during the middle of the show, the actors were supposed to destroy it and start over. In order to achieve this, we created a large wall that the actors were able to push over during the performance. The wall was rigged with a counterweight system that allowed it to fall, stand back up, and track forward in order to shrink the size of the room. The wall also had panels that the actors could punch through that were replaced nightly, as well as reinforced areas that the actors could walk on while it was in it’s fallen position.
